STX Beacon: CCP: Processing Options

Compatible Credit Card Readers

Mobile card readers that go into the headphone jack of any mobile device should be left plugged in. Taking them out and plugging them either back into the same device, or into a different device can wear them out quicker. This has a risk of damaging either the headphone port on the mobile device, or the plug on the card reader. It is recommended to dedicate the mobile device to using Beacon for business purposes only.

Any Mac computer using Beacon with the Nomad or Walker BT card reader must be Bluetooth LE (low energy). Some older Macs do not work with Nomad or Walker BT because they are not Bluetooth LE. Even though they will pair, they will not work properly during credit card processing.

To see if your Mac computer is Bluetooth LE, go to the Apple menu and select About This Mac. Click System Report to open a report about your system. On the left side margin, click Bluetooth and look at the top right for Bluetooth Low Energy Supported: Yes. If your system report says “Yes”, you will be able to process electronic payments using the Nomad or Walker BT credit card readers. If your system report says “No”, you will not be able to process electronic payments using the Nomad or Walker BT credit card readers.

To select a credit card reader in Beacon, go to Setup > Setup Ticket Preferences. Click the POS Devices tab to select a device from the Credit Card Devices drop-down menu.

Processing a Credit Card in STX Beacon

In order to process payments electronically, you must have the merchant account information entered in Beacon on the Setup > Setup Ticket Preferences > POS page.

Be sure the merchant accounts are NOT checked as a Test account if you are ready to have the electronic payments deposited to your merchant account.

You must also have at least one payment type set up for electronic processing in Setup: Company: Payment Types, and an image must be assigned for each electronic payment type.

IMPORTANT: If you need a receipt to include both a Tip Line and a Signature Line prior to processing an electronic payment, you must click the Receipt button before selecting a form of payment or clicking the Charge button.

Note: Receipt printing is only available when using the STXBeacon app on a Mac computer.

If you wish to split the amount due between separate payment types, click the Payments tab to view the different payment options.

If you are splitting the amount due between separate payment types, it is important to add the non-electronic payments first and then charge the remaining balance.

If you wish to charge the entire amount due on an electronic payment, click the Charge button.

The Add Payment popup overlay will appear.

In this example, a Cash payment of 100.00 has already been added, and an electronic payment is selected for the remaining 133.62 of the Total ticket amount.
